On 10 April 2012 the roundtable “Economic Impact of Labour Migration in CIS States. Analysis and Perspectives” was conducted. The roundtable was organized by the Permanent Commission on Social Policy and Human Rights of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in cooperation with IOM Moscow and the Center for Integration Studies at the Eurasian Bank for Development.
The goal of the roundtable was the discussion of main trends of migration policy of CIS states, in particular - harmonization of interests of CIS states in the area of employment and effective use of labour resources, development of conditions for labour migration; development of the CIS model legislation in the area of migration.
Within the roundtable participants were familiarized with “The Analysis of the Economic Effects and Legal and Institutional Consequences of the Agreement on the Legal Status of Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families and the Agreement on Cooperation between the Member States of the Common Economic Space in Preventing Illegal Labour Migration from Third Countries”, implemented by The Eurasian Bank for Development and IOM Moscow in December 2011.
Participants came up with recommendations on development of CIS model legislation in the area of migration aimed to effective use of labour resources in CIS area and at social and legal protection of labour migrants in the countries of origin and destination.
