On November 15, 2018, a scientific-practical conference “Integration of migrants and refugees in Russia” was held in St. Petersburg, organized by the St. Petersburg branch of the Russian Red Cross, aimed at systematic and comprehensive discussion of issues related to the integration and adaptation of migrants and refugees in the Russian Federation.
The conference was attended by representatives of state authorities, international organizations, general consulates, academic community, municipalities, non-profit organizations as well as media dealing with migration issues, regulation and protection of the rights of migrants and refugees.
In the introduction of the Conference, IOM Moscow Chief of Mission made a presentation «Global Compact on Migration: Integration as an effective mechanism to reduce the level of the vulnerability of migrants».
In the framework of the thematic sections on the issues of integration of labour migrants, integration of forced migrants and also adaptation/integration of migrant children; the participants discussed the activities of state bodies, public and non-profit organizations in the field of migrant integration/adaptation as well as the international legal aspects. The participants suggested a number of measures to improve the process of involving various categories of migrants in the life of the host society.
