On 31 October 2016 the VIII International Scientific and Practical Conference “New trends and consequences of migration in terms of geopolitical and economic crises” was held in Moscow. The event was organized by the Institute of Socio- Political Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Institute of European Studies and Vietnamese Academy Science in the framework of the project “Migration bridges in Eurasia”.
The main subject of the discussion during the conference was devoted to the issues of international migration in the new economic and geopolitical architecture of international relations; the impact of migration on demographic and socio-economic development of the sending and receiving countries; as well as the refugee crisis.
Russian and foreign experts from more than 30 countries took part in the event and delivered their presentations in four thematic sections within the conference: “Migration and crises in modern world: tendencies, consequences and responses of the states”; “Labour migration in Russia and foreign countries: new trends and guidelines of migration policy”; “Integration of migrants: Russian and international experience”; “Educational migration: new strategies and state policy”.
Representative of IOM Moscow took part in the event as well and delivered a presentation on migration issues in the Agenda for sustainable development for the period up to 2030, adopted by the UN Members, the New York Declaration on the results of the UN General Assembly Summit for Refugees and Migrants on 19 September 2016.
Upon the results of the conference, the materials on main migration issues with practical recommendations for enhancement of migration management and coordination among authorities in sending and receiving migrant countries were developed and printed out.
