World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2014

On July 30, 2014 the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus held a briefing on the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. This year, this date is celebrated for the first time.
The briefing was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus in the Russian Federation, representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus to the Russian Federation, IOM Moscow Chief of Mission and the colleagues, the Head of the International Training Center on migration and combating trafficking in persons of the Academy of the MoI of Belarus, by the Diplomatic Corps officials and the representatives of the federal government of the Russian Federation.

Meeting of IOM Moscow Chief of Mission with the Ombudsman in St. Petersburg

On 09 April 2014 the delegation of IOM Moscow headed by Cheif of Mission Zlatko Zigic had a meeting with Aleksandr Shishlov, the Ombudsman in St. Petersburg.
Aleksandr Shishlov spoke about the migration situation in St. Petersburg and confirmed readiness for constructive cooperation with IOM in the sphere of protection of migrants’ rights.

Practical seminar: “Problems of Adaptation and Integration of Foreign Nationals: Use of the International Experience by the Social Services of St. Petersburg”

On 25-26 March 2014 IOM Moscow jointly with Saint-Petersburg Regional office of Russian Red Cross and Saint-Petersburg State Budget Institution “Regional Center “Family” organized and conducted a two-days practical seminar in Saint-Petersburg for the specialists of municipal social institutions on organization of work with the vulnerable categories of foreign nationals including victims of human trafficking on topic: “Problems of Adaptation and Integration of Foreign Nationals: Use of the International Experience by the Social Services of St. Petersburg”.

The first meeting of an interdepartmental working group in St. Petersburg

The first meeting of an interdepartmental working group for the establishment and improvement of a referral mechanism model for providing comprehensive assistance to migrants in vulnerable situations, including victims of slave labour and sexual exploitation, was held on 11 December 2013 in the premises of the St. Petersburg Public Charitable Organization of the Russian Red Cross.

International Round Table “Counteracting Human Trafficking and Assistance to Trafficking Victims: Role and Tasks of Coordinating Structures of CIS Member-States and CIS Bodies”

On 6 December 2013 in Moscow the International Round Table “Counteracting Human Trafficking and Assistance to Trafficking Victims: the Role and Tasks of Coordinating Structures of CIS Member-States and CIS Bodies” took place.
The main topic of the agenda was the coordination of activities of the relevant authorities of the CIS member-states related to combating human trafficking on national and regional levels as well as their cooperation with international global and regional organizations in this area.

Meeting of the Public Council of the FMS of Russia in Orenburg

On 2-3 December 2013 representatives of IOM Moscow took part in an external event organized by the Federal Migration Service: a meeting of the Public Council of the FMS of Russia, which took place in the city of Orenburg.
During the meeting, the participants paid special attention to the following issues: new tasks within the activities of public councils of other governmental agencies, and also participation of the local Public Council branches of the FMS of Russia in activities devoted to adaptation and integration of migrants into Russian society.

Visit of Mr. William Lacy Swing, IOM Director General, to Moscow

On 14 November 2013, by invitation from Mr. Nikolay Bordyuzha, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Director General of IOM Mr. William L. Swing took part in the International Conference “Peacekeeping, It’s Role and Place in Maintaining International Peace and Ensuring Collective Security of the CSTO” and made a presentation.
On the margins of the conference a bilateral working meeting between Director General of IOM and Secretary General of CSTO also took place. In the course of the meeting both parties exchanged their opinions on status and prospects of cooperation and confirmed their willingness for developing the interaction.

International conference "Russian culture: what we are bringing to the world?"

On 30 October 2013 representatives of IOM Moscow took part in the international scientific-practical conference "Russian culture: what we are bringing to the world?", which was held in the conference hall of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. The conference was held within the frameworks of the XVII World Russian People's Council and church-community project "Education: linguistic and cultural adaptation of migrants".

IOM Moscow group was selected for participating in Baltic Leadership Programme, 2013 organized by the Swedish Institute

Following a series of meetings and professional discussions in the cluster of HIV/AIDS & AI expert group IOM Moscow group which comprises of two staff of Migration Health Department, a representative from Ministry of Health of Russia and a researcher from University of Ulster in UK was selected for participating in Baltic Leadership Programme, 2013 organized by the Swedish Institute.
