On 25 October 2016 a round table devoted to combating trafficking in persons, issues of estimation of the current legislation in this sphere in the Russian Federation was held in Moscow. The event was organized by IOM Moscow jointly with the Commission on security and cooperation with the Public Supervision Commissions of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation. Representatives of the federal state bodies, non-governmental organizations and experts took active part in the work of the round table and preparation of its final recommendations.
The participants of the round table thoroughly discussed the criminological phenomena of the trafficking in persons in the modern world as a destabilizing factor, representing a serious challenge and danger to individual, society and state and also gave expert estimates to the current legislation in the sphere of combating of trafficking in persons and providing direct assistance to victims in the Russian Federation.
Following the discussion, and in accordance with the views expressed during the meeting, the participants made recommendations and proposals aimed at improving the overall effectiveness of the fight against trafficking in persons; further enhancement and modernization of federal legislation in this area; consolidation of role of civil society in prevention and provision of direct assistance to victims of trafficking and further efforts towards more systematic and scientific way of combating trafficking in persons, taking into account international best practices.
